Battery Disposal Instructions

Batteries contain important raw materials that are harmful to the environment but can be recycled without pollution. For this reason, old batteries must not be disposed of with ordinary household waste under any circumstances, but must be disposed of separately according to the law. For dealers like Fiduciashop there is also a legal obligation to take back old batteries. When disposing of old batteries, consumers are therefore obliged to bring them to a suitable collection point.

Batteries that must be disposed of can be identified by the crossed-out wheeled bin (as shown above) printed on the battery packaging. Below the garbage can symbol is the chemical name of the pollutant contained:

Pb = The battery contains more than 0.004% lead by mass Blei
Cd = The battery contains more than 0.002% by mass of cadmium
Hg = The battery contains more than 0.0005 percent by mass of mercury

Of course, you can send the batteries you bought from us back to us for professional disposal. Please send a sufficiently stamped package with the keyword "battery disposal" to:

Note on the disposal of old devices

According to the law on the placing on the market, the return and the environmentally friendly disposal of electrical and electronic equipment (ElektroG), Fiduciashop has to inform private households about the handling of electrical and electronic equipment:

The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) contains a number of requirements for handling electrical and electronic equipment. We have compiled the relevant requirements for you.

1. Separate collection of old devices

Electrical and electronic equipment that has become waste is referred to as waste equipment. Owners of old devices must collect them separately from unsorted municipal waste. In particular, old devices do not belong in household waste, but in special collection and return systems.

2. Batteries and rechargeable batteries

As a rule, owners of old devices must separate old batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed by the old device from it before handing them over to a collection point. This does not apply if the old devices are handed over to public waste disposal authorities and are separated there from other old devices in order to prepare them for reuse.

3. Options for returning old devices

Owners of old devices from private households can hand them in at the collection points of the public waste disposal authorities or at the collection points set up by manufacturers or distributors within the meaning of the ElektroG.

4. Privacy Notice

Old devices often contain sensitive personal data. This applies in particular to information and telecommunications technology devices such as computers and smartphones. In your own interest, please note that each end user is responsible for deleting the data on the old devices to be disposed of.

5. Meaning of the crossed-out dustbin symbol

The symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin, which is often depicted on electrical and electronic equipment; points out that the respective electrical device at the end of its use and disposal must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste.

What does that mean for you now?

Waste electrical equipment (WEEE) that you no longer want to use must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Old electrical equipment must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste, and old batteries and accumulators must be separated from old electrical equipment if they are not enclosed by the old electrical equipment itself and if the old electrical equipment cannot be separated in accordance with Section 14 (5) sentences 2 and 3 ElektroG, to prepare it for reuse.

As a distributor with a sales, storage and shipping area for electrical and electronic equipment of at least 400 m², Fiduciashop is obliged to you

  1. When a new electrical or electronic device is handed over to an end user, to take back free of charge the end user’s old device of the same type of device, which essentially fulfills the same functions as the new device, at the place of handover or in the immediate vicinity, and
  2. Old devices that are no larger than 25 cm in any external dimension can be taken back free of charge in normal household quantities either in the retail store or in the immediate vicinity. The return of the devices is not linked to the                                      purchase of an electrical or electronic device..

Which electrical and electronic devices are meant by this regulation can be found in particular in the list of devices in Annex 1 to the ElektroG.

Of course, you can and may also hand in your old electrical equipment directly to us on site.
